Why in the world would we completely design an E46 exhaust from scratch? To prove that there is always a way to create a better mousetrap. The Rogue Engineering DMS (Dual Muffler System) exhaust system represents exhaust development brought to epic levels never before seen or done before in performance exhaust development.
The Mufflers
The DMS system is more than a unique looking muffler system. Its twin mufflers allow each bank of exhaust gases coming from the factory catalytic converter to remain separated as they exit the exhaust. Whereas most aftermarket exhausts use just one muffler, allowing for gases to pass between each of the internal pipes, the DMS system maintains the exhaust gas velocity coming from the cats by keeping them separate. Faster exiting exhaust gases equates to faster flow.
Unlike copycat exhaust systems, these mufflers are custom made specifically to Rogue Engineering's specifications which ensures a perfect fit from front to back.
Tubing
All the pipes are mandrel bent for the smoothest exhaust gas flow available. Instead of only replacing the rear muffler, the E46 DMS exhaust system also eliminates the center resonator allowing for more sound and increased flow. By maintaining the 57.2mm diameter from the center to the tips, we increase internal volume of the piping by over 25%.
The Tips
The E46 DMS exhaust now features prominent 76mm (3") dual round tips. There is a very small gap between them which allows the tips to clear most aftermarket bodywork. The staggered appearance closely matches the factory exhaust.
Construction
Made entirely from T-304 stainless steel using TIG/MIG welded construction. The exhaust hangers are precision bent to fit in the OEM hanger locations. The mufflers are polished to a mirror finish upon completion.
The Sound
How does it sound? Civilized sound with an aggressive tone when prompted. Virtually imperceptible droning at highway speeds and stock like idle when sneaking into the neighborhood late at night. Deep throaty sound when the revs increase, without the typical "Asian Import" sound at higher RPMs found in exhausts produced overseas (Hmmm...there may be a correlation).
Power?
Absolutely, without the same sacrifices in torque the "booming" mufflers rob the vehicle.
Installation
Installation of the E46 DMS requires cutting the factory exhaust system. We recommend a professional exhaust facility to install the system properly. Although it is designed to be clamped, we recommend welding the system to ensure no exhaust leaks.
