Rid your M5 or M6's V10 powerplant of both of its restrictive factory air boxes with this cold air intake kit by aFe, and you'll cut the airflow restriction IN HALF. Air flow showed an increase of 117% and dyno testing yielded max power gains of 28hp and 24 ft/lbs of torque. The intake tubes of this kit are custom-designed to accelerate airflow for best performance. Fits all 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009 and V10 M5 and M6.

Kit includes everything necessary to install, including installation instructions. This kit can typically be installed in less than 60 minutes, and uses all factory mounting points (no modifications). The kit uses 2 high performance 360 degree radial flow air filters which are washable/reusable. The filtration media uses the deepest pleats in the industry, allowing the most surface area and airflow possible, in the space allowed. The increased airflow is significant enough that it is audible while driving, giving your 5.0 liter V10 a subtly more aggressive sound when revving or under load. Best of all, this is a SAFE product that will not cause any longevity issues or malfunctions to your BMW's intricate engine management system.

This version uses aFe's highest flowing filter media, which uses a lightly oil gauze to filter out dirt and particulates, while allowing more air to flow to the intake. For the best flowing filter, with the best performance gain, we always recommend this standard aFe filter media (often called "Pro5R ", which has a blue pre-oiled filter media). We also carry this filter in the "ProDry" grey filter media, which is oil-free for only slightly less performance and no maintenance.

High flow / high performance air filters that simply replace the factory original versions within the factory airbox.

PERFORMANCE
BMC air filters are designed and produced to ensure a higher air flow than original paper filters. In F1, for example, BMC cotton filters minimize the loss of air flow pressure passing through the air filter; this way ensures the best conditions for full exploitation of maximum power. Therefore the benefits of replacing the original paper filter with BMC cotton air filter, produced using the same technology and materials as the F1 air filters, are evident.

DESIGN AND MATERIALS
Qualified engineers using advanced software and expert technicians using the latest technologies produce BMC air filters. An F1 filter must be very light, must be made of the best raw materials and must improve performance. For this reason we use only alloy mesh with epoxy coating to ensure protection from petrol fumes and from oxidization due to the humidity of the air. The filtering material is composed of a special cotton gauze soaked with low-viscosity oil to give you the best air permeability.

ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY
BMC technical staff has developed a particular production system based on soft rubber moulding which produces the familiar BMC red filters. They are made in one single piece with no welded joints in the corners, thus avoiding breaking risks. This system, called "Full Moulding" comes from R&D in F1 and it is significant of BMC air filters' technical and quality specifics.

These top of the range "High-End Intake Systems" is made without compromise to maximize the overall performance of air intake systems as one complete unit. Conical air filter, placed within the inner and outer of center cone, controls air turbulences that in turn forces the speed of airflow to accelerate. Each carbon intake is custom made specially to meet the specification of the individual car .Other mechanisms within the systems, such as heat insulation and air-cooling, are also carefully designed to work in synergy to produce the superlative performance of the whole unit.

The system isolates the engine heat, delivering cool air to the filter, and performs the function of an air chamber, giving priority to intake efficiency The shape is specially designed for each model, taking into consideration the engine characteristics and the character of the vehicle.

In order to achieve even better air-intake rectification, center cones have been installed in the filter tops and inners.

The filter has multiple layers of natural cotton, strengthened using stainless steel mesh. It is a wet type using special oil. It is accordion-shaped, maintaining an enlarged air-intake area with control of any deformation due to the negative pressure. With a grid structure, the filter rectifies the air-intake while filtering.

Your e60 M5's main source of air is a 3.25" opening behind the front center grill. The problem is that the openings are sideways. Head on airflow will find its way to the radiator and oil cooler while the engine tries to pull in its share of air that is passing by. Our ram air scoops capture and channels air directly into the factory intake ducting. This encourages pressurization of the intake boxes with cool and dense air. Our complete system has a proven advantage in that the source of air is completely from the outside. Induction type systems suffer from extreme under hood temperatures which results in a loss of power. Heat shielding around induction filters are only good for blocking radiant heat but does not seal the intake filters off from under hood heat.

CA also includes in the price of this kit the RPI Air block off plates (normally only sold seperately) which when used in conjunction with this ram kit partially block off the bottom secondary hole of the intake box. This allows for quicker pressurization of the intake system. Dyno tests have shown an extra 4-6whp gain in the midrange when using these plates.

Slide throttles operate just like they sound, in that the throttle plates slide sideways, instead of rotating about an axis as for butterflies in more traditional throttle body set ups.

Mainly used for racing, the advantage is that when the throttles are fully open, the plates are completely removed from the airflow, so there is no obstruction blocking the inlet path to the combustion chambers.
